What Arne Slot said to TNT Sports presenter before Crystal Palace game has got Liverpool fans talking

Arne Slot’s pre-match comment got Liverpool fans talking.

Arne Slot’s comment ahead of Liverpool’s Premier League clash at Crystal Palace has got fans online talking.

Slot has inspired Liverpool to five wins from their opening six league games this season.

He has also led his side to two victories in the Champions League, having beaten AC Milan and Bologna.

Slot has steered the Reds to the next round of the Carabao Cup, too, following their 5-1 victory over West Ham United.

The club’s only blemish remains the shock league defeat at home to Nottingham Forest last month.

But it’s eight wins from nine games across all competitions as the Dutchman has made a big impression since replacing Jurgen Klopp in the summer.

And he continued to endear himself to Liverpool fans with his pre-match comment.

When asked about his side’s ‘brilliant’ form, he replied: “Brilliant would be 9 out of 9.”

The 46-year-old: “This has been a very good start. The key is I think, and I’ve said it many times, we haven’t changed that much.”

Slot’s sharp answer impressed Liverpool supporters on social media as they hailed his mentality.

One X user wrote: “The man is relentless and I absolutely love it.”

A second said: “This guy don’t miss.”

A third added: “Man ain’t lowering his standards and I love it!”

A fourth commented: “Mentality monster. Admire this coach so much.”

Another claimed: “He is already getting used to the media.”

Liverpool are currently leading Palace one-nil at the break thanks to a goal from Diogo Jota.

Gary Neville left with egg on his face after Liverpool Premier League prediction

Published

on

Arne Slot’s Liverpool has been in sensational form at the start of the 2024/25 campaign, despite Gary Neville and others writing off the team’s chances of title glory.

Liverpool has kicked off this season under the guidance of head coach Arne Slot in a manner that can only be described as stunning, sending shockwaves through the Premier League.

As the season began, few gave the Reds much hope for title glory, expecting a tough transitional phase following the Jurgen Klopp era, and this scepticism seemed confirmed by a quiet window marked by only one major arrival: Federico Chiesa from Juventus.

Sky Sports pundit and former Manchester United defender Gary Neville was clear in his judgement on ‘Monday Night Football’ back in August, saying: “My view would be the impact of Klopp [leaving] will take its toll, just going off evidence from history” – suggesting Liverpool might struggle to break into the top four.

Close on the heels of United’s win against Fulham on the opening day, Neville also spilled the beans on a £5,000 charity wager with Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher, centered on whether United would end the league above Liverpool – with the loser footing the bill.

Neville was far from alone in doubting Liverpool, though. From the BBC’s round-up of 30 pundits’ Premier League predictions, not a soul fancied Slot’s squad for the title, a mere two predicted Liverpool would scrape second place, and three remarkably didn’t fancy the Reds for a top-four finish at all.

Fast forward to the present day, and the Premier League landscape has dramatically shifted. United has just appointed their sixth permanent manager since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013, and are currently sitting in 14th place after nine league games.

On the other hand, Liverpool has won eight of their first 10 matches and is leading the Premier League table, two points clear of its perennial title rival Manchester City, and seven ahead of Arsenal. The post-October international break run of fixtures was seen by many as the first real test of Slot’s tenure, yet Liverpool has come out largely unscathed, with just a Champions League clash against Bayer Leverkusen and a league meeting with Aston Villa remaining until the next set of international games.

Liverpool’s hard-fought 2-1 comeback win against Brighton on Saturday – when both City and Arsenal dropped points – felt like a pivotal moment in the season. Of course, it’s important to keep things in perspective at this stage.

Liverpool know better than anyone that title races are long, difficult and unpredictable. Slot, in particular, will be unhappy with his team’s first-half performance against the Seagulls on Saturday, and Ibrahima Konate is the latest to join a growing injury list.

Summer recruit Chiesa has only managed 78 minutes on the pitch this season due to fitness and injury woes. Diogo Jota has been out of action since Liverpool’s win over Chelsea earlier this month, while Alisson is currently nursing a hamstring issue.

Harvey Elliott also remains sidelined after sustaining a foot injury in September. Despite these setbacks and with crucial matches against Leverkusen and Villa looming, the Anfield faithful remain optimistic.

The players, Slot and the home crowd were determined to secure all three points against Brighton, an attitude that will be key moving forward. Over the past month, Liverpool’s title credentials have shifted from doubtful to convincing. The Reds have defied expectations, proving they are serious contenders.

REVEALED: The BIG reason why Mo Salah HASN’T signed new Liverpool contract

Published

on

The status of Mo Salah’s future at Liverpool has been well covered so far this season, with fans clinging on to each and every scrap of information about the superstar’s contract situation.

Salah, along with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk, is set to leave the club at the end of the season at time of writing. The club are negotiating with all three players but seem no closer to finalising deals with any of them.

The other most likely suitor for Salah’s services comes from Saudi Arabia, with the teams owned by the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) keen to bring Salah into their league as a further part of its marketability.

Reports emerged last month that Al-Ahli are in negotiations with Salah’s camp about a potential move.

But questions have constantly been asked about how the club let it get to this point. Whilst Salah is 32-years old, he remains one of – in not the – best players in the Premier League. Replacing him seems like it could practically be impossible.

But a new book by Simon Hughes is shedding light on the Egyptian King’s time at Anfield and suggests that Salah’s relationship with former manager Jurgen Klopp could be to blame for his unwillingness to commit to a new contract up to this point.

Promoting the upcoming book in the Daily Mail, Hughes writes, “Some Liverpool players spoke positively in public about the manager, even though privately they talked about him differently. Klopp would scream at some of them and in the same week, they would describe him generously as a father figure in interviews.”

“It seemed they were petrified about what would happen if they said what they really thought.” Hughes continues, “Salah did not conform to that kind of diplomacy, despite a relationship with Klopp which was professional, mutually respectful and almost always cordial”.

And @PartedBeard on Twitter adapts further from the upcoming book, saying that “It was Salah’s view that in small moments, Liverpool had been undone tactically … Salah started to openly question the environment he was working in, including Klopp and his methods.”

https://twitter.com/i/status/1852839646624993529

Did Salah’s relationship with Klopp stop him signing a contract?

Whilst it is shocking news, it isn’t the most surprising. Salah was seen to be openly criticising Klopp at points last year, getting into a very public argument on the touchline in a 2-2 draw to West Ham back in April.

“If I speak there will be fire.” Salah said about the situation after the match. And even though it did not escalate into anything further, the incident itself suggests that the overall situation between Salah and Klopp had reached boiling point.

Salah seems to be much happier this season under new head coach Arne Slot. Liverpool are yet to face any significant turbulence in their season, despite a poor performance in the 2-2 draw against Arsenal last weekend and leaving it late to scrape a 2-1 comeback with over Brighton yesterday.

But Salah’s willingness to work for Slot is indicative of a more positive environment. Slot even joked that Salah could play at right-back due to his willingness to help defensively in the 2-1 win over Chelsea recently.

If this is the case, it could be that Salah was waiting to see what the situation at the club under Slot would be like before solidifying his future anywhere. If these opening ten games have been an test, Slot has passed with flying colours.

Fans are convinced Mohamed Salah is saying goodbye to Liverpool in latest social media post

Published

on

Salah’s contract at Liverpool will come to an end in the summer.

Mohamed Salah may have dropped a subtle hint about his Liverpool future as he discussed what it means to score at Anfield.

The 32-year-old forward, who is the highest paid player in Liverpool’s history on a reported £350,000-a-week, is currently in the final year of his contract.

Back in September, after he scored in the club’s emphatic 3-0 win over Manchester United, Salah said he treated the match like it was his last at Old Trafford.

“I was coming to the game, I was saying, ‘look, it could be the last time’,” he told Sky Sports. “Nobody in the club talked to me yet about contracts so I was just like, ‘OK, I play my last season and see at the end of the season’.

“I feel I am free to play football – we will see what happens next year.”

Despite the ongoing rumours surrounding his future, Salah has been in superb form so far this season, netting nine goals for Arne Slot’s side as they continue to challenge in all competitions.

On Saturday afternoon, he scored the winner against Brighton as the Reds returned to the Premier League summit with 25 points from a possible 30.

But as he discussed the victory on social media, his decision to say “no matter what happens” has sparked a huge reaction amongst fans.

“Top of the table is where this club belongs. Nothing less,” he wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

“All teams win matches but there’s only 1 champion in the end. That’s what we want. Thank you for your support last night. No matter what happens, I will never forget what scoring at Anfield feels like.”

Liverpool news

Here’s how fans on social media reacted to Salah’s post.

One said: “The last sentence feels like a subtle goodbye to me,” while another commented: “…’I will never forget what scoring at Anfield feels like.’ Reading this hurts don’t tell me you’re leaving king.”

A third wrote: “Thank you, no matter what happens you will always the greatest player of this generation to play for this football club.”

A fourth said: “He’s gone,” and a fifth added: “He’s actually leaving next summer.”

Thoughts on Salah’s future? Should he stay at Anfield beyond next summer? Let us know in the comments.

Saved by Salah: Slot must boldly drop 5/10 Liverpool star who lost 6 duels

Published

on

Oh, how sweet victory is. Liverpool turned it around against Brighton & Hove Albion to reclaim the top spot in the Premier League, with Manchester City defeated against Bournemouth on the South Coast at the same time.

An abysmal first half was forgotten about beyond the hour mark, with Liverpool rallying through Cody Gakpo‘s somewhat fortuitous opener, cancelling out Ferdi Kadioglu’s fine strike from the opening phase.

Who else but Mohamed Salah? The Reds had tasted blood and, moments after restoring parity, broke the Brighton barrier to send Arne Slot to the top of the division.

Mohamed Salah’s done it again

It was a sumptuous strike. Trademark Mo’. The contractual uncertainties engulfing Anfield at the moment have failed to knock Slot’s newly-crafted Liverpool system off-kilter, with Salah performing at a frankly incredible level this season.

The 32-year-old has now scored nine goals and provided seven assists across 15 matches in all competitions this season, proving once again that he is one of the best players in the world and that his absence from the Ballon d’Or top 30 was nothing short of farcical.

He was invariably dangerous from the right, admittedly sluggish early on but growing with his squad after the break, missing a glorious opportunity to make it 1-1 before indeed making amends with his special, special strike.

He came up with the goods yet again, and if Liverpool do find themselves in title contention at the business end of the campaign, Slot and the supporters will owe much to the Egyptian and will need to call upon his potency to get over the line ahead of the likes of City and Arsenal.

Liverpool won’t always be able to turn things around, however – faltering from this quality was the crux of the demise under Jurgen Klopp last term.

The likes of Alexis Mac Allister need to step up their game, and in the Argentine’s case, must be dropped for the next match.

Alexis Mac Allister must now be dropped

Against the Seagulls, he flattered to deceive. Mac Allister was hooked after 66 minutes, having failed to take control of the midfield battle. He lost six duels and ceded possession 15 times, as per Sofascore, finishing with only a 74% pass success rate despite failing to create a single key pass.

The Liverpool Echo’s Ian Doyle handed the South American a 5/10 match rating, though did note that an early knock might have hampered his performance.

The reporter said: ‘Clobbered early on and appeared hampered for much of first half in which he could barely do anything right. Improved a bit second half and forced Verbruggen into save. Booked and subbed.’

He’s regressed across every department, from a statistical standpoint at least, and though Mac Allister brings a mix of control, combativeness and culture to Liverpool’s midfield that’s not so easily defined through metrics, it’s rather patent that he’s struggling to reach the same heights at the moment.

Ryan Gravenberch has been a revelation this season but he’s simply not a defensive midfielder in the typical sense of the word. Instead, the press-resistant, fluid-passing Dutchman operates in a dynamic deep-sat role.

As such, Mac Allister will need to be more consistent in his defensive work while channelling play forward with greater regularity too. The 25-year-old looked exhausted against his former club and questions need to be raised about the amount of football he’s been playing for club and country over the past few years.

Luckily, Liverpool have the likes of Curtis Jones and Wataru Endo who can step in when needed. Both stars made a positive impression off the bench today, and both operate in wildly different midfield parameters.

Mac Allister needs to be dropped, allowed to recuperate. He’s not quite fallen by the wayside, but he’s certainly hanging on after a tiring start to his season.

I saw what Liverpool fans did to Arne Slot after Brighton win – it spoke volumes what they think

Published

on

Liverpool moved top of the Premier League table with a 2-1 win over Brighton.

Of Arne Slot’s 15 games in the Liverpool hot seat, this must have been the most satisfying. Certainly, it felt that way for supporters inside Anfield. The relief and adulation after a 2-1 victory over Brighton was palpable.

As footballing cliches go, this was a game of two halves. The Reds could count themselves fortunate to have gone into the interval only a goal down. They were persistently carved open by the Seagulls. Liverpool’s performance was frantic and error-laden, which is everything that goes against Slot’s philosophy. Had Ferdi Kadioglu found more composure in front of goal after opening the scoring, Brighton could have inflicted a second home defeat on Slot since his arrival. That would have engendered some question marks around Liverpool’s chief, having already suffered defeat by Nottingham Forest.

But in the second period, the Reds’ improved markedly. Whatever Slot instructed his troops inside the dressing room had a profound impact. There was more composure on the ball, more competent pressing and significantly more chances created. By the time Cody Gakpo equalised when his cross, intelligently left alone by Darwin Nunez, nestled in the far corner in the 69th minute, it was the least the home side deserved.

And when Mo Salah curled his shot into the top corner to net Liverpool’s winner – and move to outright eighth in the Premier League’s all-time scorer charts ahead of Reds legend Robbie Fowler – Anfield erupted. Celebrations were as vociferous as if this were a big European showdown because Kopites recognised an opportunity they knew may not come around again this season – to leapfrog Manchester City at the summit of the table. City’s shock 2-1 loss at Bournemouth was something that Liverpool profited on. The Reds also took advantage of Arsenal losing to Newcastle at lunchtime and are now seven points ahead of the Gunners after 10 league games. That is a significant gap at this formative stage. Slot is playing down Liverpool’s title chances but they have only been augmented.

When Slot was appointed head coach in the summer, talk was rife about whether he could successfully fill the gargantuan void of Jurgen Klopp. Manchester United’s troubles after Sir Alex Ferguson’s exit are well-documented. The Red Devils are onto their sixth permanent boss in Ruben Amorim having jettisoned from the upper echelons for the English and European game. Likewise, Arsenal had their struggles following Arsene Wenger’s departure.

But Slot has made a start better at Liverpool than anyone could have imagined. This was his 13th triumph and eighth in 10 league games – another L4 record he’s set. In truth, he’s won over any doubters there might have been.

Certainly, Slot has endeared himself to Liverpool supporters. Klopp was adored by fans, with his trademark fist-pumps after big wins in front of the Kop relished. The ultimate compliment for Slot is that those in the famous stand tried to cajole him to do the same after the Brighton win.

The Dutchman politely declined the invitation. Instead, he responded with his customary celebration – a subtle clench of the fist and applause. What Slot has made clear since arriving is he’s not trying to be Klopp 2.0 – but that’s a facet of why he’s swiftly earned the Liverpool faithful’s trust and respect.

‘Only on television’ – Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler makes wild Anfield claim after Liverpool defeat

Published

on

Fabian Hurzeler watched his Brighton team dominate the first half against Liverpool before losing 2-1 after a second half comeback.

Fabian Hurzeler admits Brighton couldn’t cope with Anfield atmosphere after suggesting his side should “easily” have beaten Liverpool. The Reds scored twice in three second-half minutes through Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah to earn a memorable 2-1 triumph on Saturday afternoon and move two points clear at the top of the Premier League.

Brighton had dominated the first half and were unfortunate not to be further ahead after Ferdi Kadioglu smashed home a 14th-minute opener.

But the visitors were unable to maintain their level and fell to a second defeat to Liverpool inside 72 hours.

“In the end football is always about results,” said Hurzeler. “We need results for the process and we have to understand how to get results. On the other side of that, the performance was good enough to win this game easily.

“Especially in the first half, there were a lot of moments where we should score the second and the third goal and maybe the game could be completely different.

“In the second half there were two or three moments when we weren’t precise enough, we lost 50-50 duels and got a little bit affected maybe by the atmosphere.

“These things are so important to experience and to learn to get the result you deserve in the end.”

Asked about how Brighton could address the problem of the Anfield crowd, Hurzeler added: “We can solve this by calling Jurgen (Klopp) and asking him!

“It’s a tough moment, I’d only experienced it on television so far but now I’ve experienced it for myself. These are the small details.

“Being loud, great atmosphere, maybe a wild environment, in exactly those moments you need to stay calm and still play out from the back. They were the solutions and we couldn’t find them in the second half.

“Then the dominance from Liverpool was getting bigger and bigger and they had more crosses from outside the box. They didn’t have big chances, in general we defended quite good, but we have to take responsibility that we weren’t that precise playing with the courage we did in the first half.”

A much-changed Liverpool had beaten Brighton in the League Cup fourth round on Wednesday night.

And of the second successive defeat to the Reds, Hurzeler said: “The performance was good but we’re a club with ambition and we need to get results from these kind of games.

“It’s a third bad experience in a week, we gave away a 2-0 lead against Wolves, we played a very good game in the Carabao against Liverpool and again today, but it’s three games and just one point.

“We could have been more ruthless but we also needed more luck. If you want to win at Anfield you need some luck and you saw the cross for their first goal, the luck was on their side. You also need a referee who will give the 50-50 duels to you and we didn’t have that in the second hal

‘This is what people told me’ – Arne Slot loved what Liverpool substitute did in win over Brighton

Published

on

Arne Slot was speaking after Liverpool’s 2-1 comeback win over Brighton at Anfield.

Arne Slot has hailed Joe Gomez for his performance after coming on at half-time in Liverpool’s 2-1 comeback win over Brighton & Hove Albion. Goals from Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah were enough for the Reds to leapfrog Man City to go top of the Premier League table.

However, it wasn’t a straight-forward victory for Slot’s men, who struggled in the first half as they trailed to Ferdi Kadioglu’s early volley and then saw Ibrahima Konate limp off at half-time with an arm injury.

Gomez replaced the France international at half-time as he came on for only his third Premier League appearance of the season. The outing also marked his first showing in his favoured centre-back position in the English top-flight since September 2023.

The England international has found game-time limited under Slot following his return from Euro 2024, with it well-documented that he could have left Liverpool in the summer. A transfer to Newcastle United was agreed at the end of June as part of a deal that would have seen Anthony Gordon move in the opposite direction.

However, the switch collapsed. And while Gomez’s future remained the subject of speculation, with the defender left out of the matchday squad for the Reds’ Premier League opener away at Ipswich Town as he considered his future, he ended up staying put at Anfield.

With Gomez now on standby to start against Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday night if Konate is sidelined, Slot praised the 27-year-old’s mentality as he revealed what he was told about the defender after succeeding Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool head coach.

“It says a lot about his mentality today, it also says a lot about his quality,” the Dutchman said. “If you don’t play that much and you come in in a game where your team-mates were outplayed for 45 minutes, that you can come in and play like this.

“And it also says a lot about his mentality in the recent weeks and months where he didn’t play that much. But he was able, without playing a lot, to play 90 minutes on Wednesday and to bring in a performance like this on Saturday.

“But this is what people told me when I came in. Joe is a top, top, top professional who always, no matter what position he is in, he always gives the best for the team and for himself in the end as well.

“He got the reward for it today because I think the fans loved what they saw. I definitely did.”

Gomez wasn’t the only substitute to make a difference as Liverpool came from behind to beat Brighton, with Luis Diaz and Curtis Jones also proving instrumental in the Reds’ comeback.

And while Slot admitted he could have taken off any one of his below-par players following their first half display, he was impressed with his squad’s response after the interval as he explained his changes.

“For me, at the start of the second half we were dominant,” he said. “We were creating our chances, so that is why I didn’t really feel the need to change something.

“But if you create your chances and it doesn’t go in, and then you have so many good players on the bench that can also make a difference and have an impact on the game, you do change.

“I don’t think in the second half that anybody deserved to be taken out. In the first half, almost all deserved to be taken out but in the second half they didn’t. But if you then have the likes of Lucho and Curtis Jones, you bring them in.

“For me, it is not that much of a risk if you’re 1-0 down to bring players in who can score a goal. As long as you know these players can play with the same intensity as the ones who started, and that’s what Lucho and Curtis brought. Intensity without the ball and quality with the ball.”

Liverpool fans are fearing the worst after hearing what Kostas Tsimikas said about his out-of-contract teammates

Published

on

Several Liverpool players are out of contract in the summer.

Liverpool fans have been reacting to Kostas Tsimikas’ latest comments about his soon-to-be out-of-contract teammates.

The Reds have enjoyed a fantastic start to life after Jurgen Klopp as Arne Slot has hit the ground running straight away.

After Sunday’s 2-2 draw against Arsenal, Liverpool sit second in the Premier League table, one point behind champions Manchester City.

In Europe, Slot has had a perfect start in the Champions League after winning against AC Milan, Bologna and RB Leipzig.

However, despite the great start to life at Liverpool, Slot is often being questioned about some of his star players’ futures.

The likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah are all set to walk away for free in the summer if the club fail to agree a new deal with them.

During a recent interview with Sky Sports, Greek defender Tsimikas was asked about his teammates.

The defender said: “It’s up to them what they will do. For sure, the guys who leave, we’ll miss them a lot because all of them are here for many years.

“They know what they want from the future, but their thinking is always to enjoy every moment here. I think that’s the most important thing for them, and you don’t know what the future will bring.”

Reacting on social media, one fan said: “This is depressing from a Liverpool POV.”

Another tweeted: “Feels very much like ‘I know one or two are getting off’.”

A third fan added: “Sounds possibly like all 3 will be off to me and if that’s the case watch how shite we go next season.”

Someone else wrote: “This is a bad sign for me… may be reading too much into it but why would he be saying that…”

A fifth commented: “It’ll be a huge change if those about to be out of contract actually leave. Replacing VVD and Trent is no easy task.”

Speaking after the Arsenal draw, Van Dijk said: “Listen, I’m very calm. I’ve mentioned it many times before – let’s see what happens at the end of the season.

“I’m enjoying my football. I’m feeling very good physically and mentally – I’m in a good place. Nothing more can be said.

“I just want to keep enjoying the game because it’s a beautiful game that we play and that I play as well.”
