What was meant to be a day of jubilation for Liverpool fans quickly turned into a nightmare when a tragic incident disrupted the club’s victory parade.
Among those affected emotionally were the family of Isaac Kearney — the young boy known across the Liverpool fan community for his inspiring story — and his sister Florence.
Melissa Kearney, Isaac’s mum, took to social media to express her gratitude that her children made it home safe after being just moments away from the chaotic accident that unfolded on the parade route.
“My two kids are home safe,” Melissa wrote. “I actually left town around 4PM because being heavily pregnant in the crowd just wasn’t for me.”
She shared that she had left Isaac and Florence in town with their dad and other family members. The children were enjoying the parade atmosphere when the unexpected happened. Not long after, Melissa received a call that sent chills through her — there had been an accident.
“To then receive a phone call from their dad to tell me the news of what had happened… Wow, the blood drained,” she said.
According to Melissa, Isaac and Florence were on that same street and at that exact moment, making their way home when the incident occurred. The frightening proximity of the accident left her shaken as she thought about the horrifying possibilities of what could have happened.
“Luckily, my family members were able to get through doorways and get them to safety. They were both so frightened hearing sirens and seeing the horrific scenes,” she shared.
Her daughter Florence, still shaken, described how scared she felt during the experience.
“She told me how she was so frightened she was shaking,” Melissa wrote. “They’ve come home and asked one hundred questions.”
The day, which began with cheers and celebrations, ended with heartbreak and trauma for many. Melissa, like countless others, was left devastated and speechless.
“I honestly have no words. I am devastated watching the news right now. How on earth did such a fantastic day turn to this?” she lamented.
Despite the traumatic turn of events, Melissa expressed deep gratitude that her children are safe. Her words echo what many Liverpool families are feeling tonight — heartbreak for those affected, and relief for the narrow escapes.
As investigations into the incident continue, the thoughts of the Liverpool community are with all those who were caught in the chaos — especially the children like Isaac and Florence, whose smiles turned to fear on what was supposed to be a day of pure joy.
