Alexander Isak Takes Bold Step to Force Liverpool Move as Newcastle Consider Record £150m Exit

Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak has reportedly taken drastic steps in a bid to force through a sensational move to Liverpool, with the striker pushing for an exit from St James’ Park this summer.
Isak was notably absent from Newcastle’s pre-season tour, sparking speculation that he had requested to leave. According to talkSPORT, the Swedish international has not returned to the training ground since making his desire to depart known last week. Instead, he is said to be following a personal training programme at home while Newcastle’s top brass weigh up their options.
🔴 Liverpool Lead Race — But Al-Hilal Also Circle
The Premier League champions Liverpool are reportedly the frontrunners for the 24-year-old’s signature, although Saudi giants Al-Hilal have also been linked.
Despite interest from multiple clubs, Newcastle are said to be demanding around £150 million, a figure that would smash their club record sale and provide huge financial breathing room for the next three-year PSR cycle.
Isak, for his part, is believed to be demanding £300,000-a-week to consider renewing his deal at St James’ Park, suggesting his future lies away from the Magpies.
⚖️ Will Newcastle Cash In?
While Newcastle are not under immediate pressure to sell, like they were last summer when they parted ways with Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh, a big-money deal for Isak could reshape their financial outlook.
However, reinvestment has proven tricky so far, with targets like Dean Huijsen, Bryan Mbeumo, Joao Pedro, Hugo Ekitike, and James Trafford all turning down moves to Tyneside. Newcastle may take note of Tottenham’s infamous £85m Bale sale, where only Christian Eriksen and Erik Lamela provided lasting value from a group of seven signings.
🔴 Do Liverpool Really Need Isak?
Having already spent nearly £300m, it’s fair to question whether Liverpool need Isak — but there’s little doubt he’d be a valuable asset. The 6’3” striker is dynamic, clinical, and entering his prime, having scored 27 goals last season, finishing just behind Mo Salah in the Golden Boot race.
Concerns do remain around his injury history. Newcastle cited a thigh issue as the reason for his absence from their tour, and manager Eddie Howe has previously acknowledged the need to manage Isak’s minutes due to recurring groin problems.
Still, if Liverpool do move forward, they’ll be acquiring a top-tier forward with world-class potential — one who seems eager to wear the red shirt.
