KEY PLAYER ‘MOST LIKELY’ WILL LEAVE LIVERPOOL THIS SUMMER FOR THIS TEAM
Captain Henderson finds himself in a tantalizing position as he attracts interest from Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia. The decision he faces is whether to remain loyal to Anfield or pursue a highly lucrative opportunity elsewhere, which undoubtedly presents a challenging dilemma for the Liverpool stalwart.
Currently, Liverpool has not received any formal approach for Henderson’s services, but it is Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq that has taken the lead in expressing their desire to secure his signature. Consequently, Henderson must carefully contemplate severing ties with the Merseyside club, where he has spent an impressive 12 years of his career.
At the age of 33, Henderson is confronted with the task of assessing the immediate financial gains that a move to the Saudi league could provide. Joining former teammate Roberto Firmino and a host of other renowned players would undoubtedly prove tempting. However, he must weigh this against the emotional toll of departing Liverpool at this juncture. Although Henderson still has two years remaining on his Liverpool contract, the club’s midfield landscape is evolving under the guidance of manager Jürgen Klopp. With the addition of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai for a combined fee of £95 million, there will be more competition for places in the upcoming season.
Ultimately, the decision lies in Henderson’s hands, whether he grants the Saudis permission to approach Liverpool and make an offer. Should such a bid materialize, it will become evident that Henderson has chosen to embark on a new chapter in his career. Naturally, Klopp’s response to such an offer would be a captivating aspect to observe.
Ideally, Klopp would like to bolster his midfield options, with Southampton’s Romeo Lavia being a potential target. However, the £50 million valuation poses a significant obstacle, necessitating further player sales. It is neither practical nor financially sensible for Klopp to retain nine midfielders in his squad, particularly considering Trent Alexander-Arnold’s newfound role in a hybrid position. Consequently, the situation remains fluid, and it is anticipated that Thiago Alcantara may also attract interest from Saudi clubs.
Nevertheless, Klopp may desire Henderson’s continued presence due to his wealth of experience. Following James Milner’s departure, losing another senior professional would undoubtedly mark a significant shift within the squad. Therefore, Henderson’s perspective on the offers he receives will likely be the deciding factor.
Furthermore, Henderson must also consider the potential implications for his international career should he choose to move this summer. He currently holds a pivotal role in Gareth Southgate’s plans for the upcoming European Championships and would not wish to jeopardize his position.
Undoubtedly, Klopp will be eager for a swift resolution to the situation as he prepares his squad for vital pre-season training in Germany, where they will focus on crucial conditioning work.

Trent Alexander-Arnold set to receive ‘insane’ salary at Real Madrid after announcing Liverpool exit
Trent Alexander-Arnold is poised to earn a hefty salary at Real Madrid after confirming his departure from Liverpool.
Trent Alexander-Arnold is in line to receive a whopping salary at Real Madrid as further details emerge following confirmation he will be leaving Liverpool.
Alexander-Arnold has been a constant source of speculation throughout Liverpool’s Premier League title-winning season and though Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk signed new contracts, the England international has decided to move for pastures new.
After a flurry of reports, on Monday Alexander-Arnold confirmed he will not be extending his contract at Anfield and will depart on a free after spending 20 years with his boyhood club.
A day after the 3-1 defeat to Chelsea, Alexander-Arnold posted a lengthy statement accompanied by an emotional video explaining his decision.
Liverpool also put out an official statement and said the two-time Premier League winner will “depart with our gratitude and appreciation for his contribution during a sustained period of success”.
Trent Alexander-Arnold’s Real Madrid contract emerges after announcement
In what appears to be the worst kept secret in football, Alexander-Arnold is now poised to embark on a new chapter in Spain, joining England teammate Jude Bellingham at 15-time European champions Real.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Alexander-Arnold is expected to sign a five-year contract at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Sacha Tavolieri of Sky Sport reported that he will also be given a hefty salary increase from his Liverpool pay packet, earning €15 million per year prior to any taxes, performance-related bonuses and a signing on fee factored in.
However, the figure means he will not be one of Real’s top earners – with the likes of Vinicius Jr and Kylian Mbappe on higher wages than Alexander-Arnold.
His Liverpool deal is due to officially expire on July 1 but The Sun say he could join up with Real sooner as they want him to participate in the Club World Cup which kicks off in the United States in June.
It’s claimed if an early release is paid for by Los Blancos, Alexander-Arnold could move on June 1 and would be on course to feature against Al Hilal in the group stage game in Miami on June 15.
Alexander-Arnold has racked up 351 appearances for Liverpool, scoring 23 goals and assisting 92. He could pull on the Reds shirt three more times, including twice at home to Arsenal and Crystal Palace.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has announces he’s leaving Liverpool and explains full reasons why in emotional video
Trent Alexander-Arnold has announced that he will leave Liverpool at the end of the season, explaining his Anfield departure in an emotional video.
Alexander-Arnold, whose existing deal expires at the end of the season, shared a video on social media confirming his Liverpool exit.
His statement read: “After 20 years at Liverpool Football Club, now is the time for me to confirm that I will be leaving at the end of the season.
“This is easily the hardest decision I’ve ever made in my life.
“I know many of you have wondered why or been frustrated that I haven’t spoken about this yet, but it was always my intention to keep my full focus on the team’s best interests, which was securing No.20.
“This club has been my whole life – my whole world – for 20 years. From the Academy right through until now, the support and love I have felt from everyone inside and outside of the club will stay with me forever. I will forever be in debt to you all.”
Alexander-Arnold, who started Sunday’s 3-1 defeat to Chelsea, added: “But, I have never known anything else and this decision is about experiencing a new challenge, taking myself out of my comfort zone and pushing myself both professionally and personally.
“I’ve given my all every single day I’ve been at this club, and I hope you feel like I’ve given back to you during my time here.
“From the bottom of my heart, I thank everybody – my coaches, my managers, my teammates, the staff and our incredible supporters – for the last 20 years.
“I’ve been blessed enough to live out my dreams here and I will never, ever take for granted the special moments I’ve been fortunate enough to have lived through with you all. My love for this club will never die.”

Alexander-Arnold leaves Liverpool as a two-time Premier League winner, having secured this season’s league title.
He also won the Champions League, the FA Cup and the EFL Cup during his time at the club.
Alexander-Arnold hasn’t disclosed the next move of his career but a move to Real Madrid appears to be on the cards.
Real have been long-time admirers of the 26-year-old ahead of a potential free transfer this summer.

Arne Slot hints which Liverpool players are leaving this summer as Sky slam ‘sloppy’ 5/10 ace
It’s looking set to be a big summer transfer window for Liverpool.
To be fair to the Reds, the hard work has already been kicked off with successful extensions agreed for Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk.
The jury’s still out on whether Trent Alexander-Arnold will turn down what looks to be a likely end-of-season move to Real Madrid as a free agent.
Then there are further questions to be asked of the club’s squad players. Sky Sports have already confirmed that Kostas Tsimikas is one player Liverpool are looking to move on this summer.
What did Arne Slot say about Liverpool outgoings?
Arne Slot and Liverpool’s recruitment team have some big calls to make this summer.
It shouldn’t be forgotten that they’ll ultimately be looking to dissect a Premier League-winning side ahead of the next transfer window.
But it would be remiss of us to suggest the squad isn’t in need of any tweaking ahead of the 2024/25 season.
In our view, Slot appears to be of a similar mind. In fact, we’d go as far as suggesting that the Dutch head coach’s comments after the 3-1 loss to Chelsea indicate he’s already got a good idea of which players need to leave.
“They deserve to play these games because they have trained so hard this season,” the former Feyenoord boss told Sky Sports.
“Every time they did so well so that’s why I think they deserved to play this game.
“We don’t judge them only on this game, we judge them every day on the training ground and in the moments that they play for us.”
Could Jarell Quansah be moved on?
If Arne Slot is keeping a close eye on player performances ahead of the summer, Jarell Quansah will have done himself no favours with his latest outing.
The Liverpool centre-back was viewed as the statistically worst player on the pitch against the Blues on Sunday.
Sofascore hit the Englishman with a 5.9/10 rating. Of course, matters certainly weren’t helped by an own goal that he can’t really be blamed for, as Virgil van Dijk cannoned the ball at our No.78 when attempting a clearance in the box.
Slot has already made clear that the centre-back is far away from being a first-choice option. He’s only secured 398 minutes in the Premier League in 2024/25.
Let’s not forget he was brutally subbed at half-time in our Premier League opener against Ipswich after struggling to win his challenges. 2/6 challenges (aerial and ground) won against Chelsea will hardly have put him back in the manager’s good graces.
As to whether Slot will be prepared to sanction Quansah’s exit when we’re already in need of defensive reinforcements this summer remains to be seen.
Quansah’s stats against Chelsea
→ 3 clearances
→ 2 blocked shots
→ 1 interception
→ 1 own goal
→ 1 error leading to a shot
→ 1 penalty conceded
→ 2/6 duels won (aerial and ground)
→ Possession lost 9 times
→ 82/89 pass completion (92%)
Sky Sports journalist criticises Liverpool defender
We can overlook the own goal. However, Quansah didn’t cover himself in glory after giving away a penalty – which Cole Palmer (who was magnanimous about Liverpool at full-time) duly finished – in the second half.
“Sums up a sloppy performance from Liverpool – and Quansah in particular,” Sky Sport LLs’ Sam Blitz wrote about the 22-year-old.
Not his best display in the famous red shirt. That said, we do hope it isn’t the last we see of him.

Trent Alexander-Arnold finally ‘makes decision’ on Liverpool contract extension following Premier League title win
Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold has reportedly made a decision on his future.
Alexander-Arnold, 26, has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid for some time, with his Liverpool contract set to expire in June.
The right-back was in the thick of Liverpool’s celebrations after they were crowned Premier League champions on April 27 – although he did not speak to the media gathered at Anfield.
On Sunday (May 4), he started during the Reds’ 3-1 defeat against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, which means he could have just three games left to play for the club.
The England international has been fairly tight-lipped about his future throughout the campaign, but as the season nears its end, a decision will have to be made public sooner rather than later.
In late April, journalist Fabrizio Romano maintained that a deal between “Real Madrid and Liverpool is at the final stages”.
“The deal for Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid is at the final stages,” Romano said on the ‘Here We Go’ podcast.
“Just waiting for the formal steps, just waiting to sign all the contracts, just waiting to complete all the documents. And so that’s the direction of the story.
“Real Madrid, at the moment, no changes in the conversation in the situation with Liverpool.”
The Athletic’s David Ornstein also gave his take on the situation when he spoke on The Athletic FC Podcast on Monday (April 28).
“It’s long since been the case that we’re expecting him to join Real Madrid, but of course, until absolutely everything is finalised, that door is just slightly ajar,” explained Ornstein.
On Sunday (May 4), Football Insider reported that Alexander-Arnold “has made up his mind about his exit and Arne Slot’s side have already moved on,” although this has yet to be confirmed by the player, or Liverpool Football Club.
The outlet went on to explain how Liverpool have already begun assessing his replacement and are likely to bring in a right-back this summer, with Juventus’ Andrea Cambiaso being linked with a potential move to the Premier League champions – although Manchester City are also thought to be interested.

Enzo Fernandez makes feelings clear during guard of honour before Liverpool game
Chelsea welcomed Liverpool onto the pitch for their Premier League fixture with a guard of honour but fans felt that one Blues star wasn’t holding up his end of the bargain
Enzo Fernandez was falsely accused by some Liverpool fans on social media of ‘not clapping’ during the Premier League champions’ guard of honour prior to their game at Chelsea on Sunday.
The Reds were afforded the honour at Stamford Bridge after wrapping up the title last weekend with a thumping win over Tottenham. Blues boss, Enzo Maresca, confirmed in the week that his side would perform a guard of honour for their old rivals before their match, which will have a major bearing on Chelsea’s Champions League hopes.
Chelsea went ahead with their plans – much to the disappointment of some home fans – but one angle of the guard of honour made it appear as though Fernandez was not applauding.
It seems as though the Argentina international was clapping Liverpool onto the pitch at the start of the guard of honour before stopping briefly. And it quickly became a talking point on social media.
One fan wrote: “Correct me if I’m wrong but Enzo didn’t clap,” while another posted: “Almost certain that Enzo didn’t clap.” Another social media user shared an image of Fernandez standing with his hands by his side and quipped: “Enzo Fernandez was already plotting his revenge against Liverpool during the guard of honour.”
While other angles of the guard of honour show that Fernandez was applauding at points, the midfield maestro wasted little time in putting Liverpool to the sword once the whistle had blown. It took him just three minutes to finish off a slick Chelsea move to stun the champions, who somewhat stumbled out of the blocks at Stamford Bridge.
Sky Sports commentator Gary Neville waxed lyrical about the move that led to Fernandez’s goal before commending the midfielder’s composure. He said: “That is quite simply a beautiful goal.
“There is a piece of football in the middle of the field that is really special. Enzo Fernandez is the benefactor. Fair play to Fernandez, the composure – he could have lashed at it first time and he didn’t.”

Liverpool fans left fuming with ONE Chelsea player after spotting what he did during guard of honour
Liverpool fans left fuming with ONE Chelsea player after spotting what he did during guard of honour
Liverpool fans are fuming with ONE Chelsea player after spotting what he did during their guard of honour at Stamford Bridge.
Liverpool secured the Premier League title following their 5-1 victory over Tottenham last weekend.
It’s the club’s 20th league title in their storied history.
As per league tradition, Liverpool received a guard of honour against Chelsea ahead of kick-off in their first league fixture since their league triumph.
Chelsea players lined up either side as Liverpool’s league-winning team, led by captain Virgil van Dijk, walked through the guard of honour.
The likes of Cole Palmer, Levi Colwill and Enzo Fernandez applauded their opponents onto the pitch.
But Liverpool supporters called out Noni Madueke’s act during the guard of honour.
People on social media are convinced he didn’t clap as the Liverpool XI received their guard of honour.

One X user wrote: “Madueke is not clapping.”
A second joked: “Madueke wasn’t enjoying that guard of honour was he.”
A third added: “Might be the most pathetic clapping I’ve ever seen that from Madueke.”
Another commented: “Madueke has no respect! He wasn’t clapping.”
Liverpool will receive a guard of honour for their remaining league fixtures against Arsenal, Brighton and Crystal Palace before lifting the Premier League at Anfield in front of their own fans on May 25.
Despite it being Premier League tradition, Peter Crouch doesn’t like the concept of a guard of honour.
On TNT Sports, he said “I don’t like it. Maybe it shows respect but I just don’t get it. It’s embarrassing for the team that comes out and it’s entirely embarrassing for the team that claps them on the field. It’s not for me.”
“Both are quite awkward. Crouchy’s exactly right.”

Roberto Firmino breaks silence on Liverpool Premier League title win with ‘beautiful’ message
Roberto Firmino breaks silence on Liverpool Premier League title win with ‘beautiful’ message
Roberto Firmino has shared his delight at Liverpool’s recent Premier League triumph and admitted he was especially pleased for former team-mate Mohamed Salah. The Brazilian spent eight years at Anfield and was part of the 2020 side that ended the Reds’ 30-year wait for a league title.
However, Firmino left Anfield when his contract expired at the end of the 2022-23 season and decided to join Saudi Pro League side Al Ahli instead.
But the former Hoffenheim playmaker has been keeping an eye on proceedings at Anfield since his departure nearly two years ago, and after his side secured AFC Champions League glory on Saturday night, he took the time to pay homage to Liverpool’s record-equaling 20th league title win last weekend.
Roberto Firmino breaks silence.
Asked by WinWin about Liverpool’s success and the importance of Salah, Firmino said: “I’m happy for Liverpool and for what Mohamed Salah has achieved.
Firmino, Salah and Sadio Mane formed a legendary forward line at Anfield between 2017 and 2022, in which time they helped the Reds win the Champions League, Super Cup, Club World Cup, Premier League, League Cup and FA Cup.
But the trio was broken up just days after Liverpool were defeated by Real Madrid in the Champions League final at the end of the 2021-22 season, as Mane was sold to Bayern Munich.
Twelve months later, Firmino swapped Anfield for the Saudi Pro League at the end of his contract.
Salah, meanwhile, is still firing in the goals for Liverpool and, after a stellar return of 33 goals and 23 assists in all competitions this term, signed a new two-year deal with the club last month.
After captaining Al Ahli to a first AFC Champions League triumph on Saturday night, Firmino added: “We had to put in a lot of effort, and I’m very happy. I’m proud of my team and my teammates, and I’m also happy for the fans and the players’ families
“I am very grateful to God for giving me this talent. I tried to do my best to give back to the viewers and our fans, and thank God we won the title.
“This title is very special, it means something big to us as a team. I hope to be special or a legend in this club, and I will give everything I have for the team.
“I dedicate the title to my family and teammates who put in a lot of effort throughout the season.
“We are now the Asian champions, and the secret is that we handled the match well. This mentality, if we maintain it, will always make us win. I believe in our coach and the abilities of every player”
